(9.3.2011) HEIRLOOM VEGGIES I never understood how an heirloom tomato got its name; I never thought veggies aged very well. Luckily, the literal transgression of veggies through generations can be understood through the seed. heirloom seeds are genetically different from industrial seed and importantly so (to avoid crop wipe-outs and famine.) The world needs diversity in plants (+ other things) to keep from another potato famine, so these seeds are of high value to society + to our taste-buds.
heirloom,what a perfect word.
(7.24.2011) CASEIN is a milk protein, which of course i found in the almond cheese that has been one of my better finds. WRONG. non vegan. no wonder it tastes so good. which brings up the point: why make a cheese substitute if you must put the milk back into the product? i read a couple of articles like Kevin Gianni’s renegade health article talking about milk vs almond. the truth is, they both have their benefits. According to Kevin, almond milk has more fat. The idea is the digestion: most of the population suffers from indigestion of A-1 type casein, which is in cow’s milk. A-2 casein in almond milk can also be found in sheep + goat’s milk. so if you want to stop your pink pepto dessert, switch to these cheeses.

But today, i was looking into making Rhubarb Vegan Pie and was wondering what makes the flakes,. Margarine, my frenemy, was the answer. Turns out that Palm Oil is the cure-all for margarine because it is solid at room temperature, which was the hype about hydrogenated oils in the first place. Turns out margarine can come back into my friend circle, but only if she stays away from bread because she’s not good enough for him (bread is only compatible with butter in my book)

D & I have a bag of it sitting on her kitchen counter just waiting,in a lump, for us to sink our teeth into. it’s still a foreign pile of sand to me @ this point.

I know b12 is for your blood, but what about the rest od the Bzzzzzzzz. It’s most concentrated in meats, such as tuna or liver. Good sources for B vitamins include kombucha, whole grains, potatoes, bananas, lentils, chili peppers, tempeh, beans, nutritional yeastbrewer’s yeast, and molasses. We used to give brewer’s yeast to my cat as a treat; i think i’ll stick with the supplement.

(7.12.2011 BY: S) L-PHENYLALINE is an amino acid essential to building protein. it can be derived naturally from plants (hence the L-) or in a lab (D-) to create higher potency. it can be found in most legumes + nuts, soybeans, garbanzo beans, and peanut butter being some of the highest. it promotes alertness + vitality, aids memory + learning, used to treat muscle pains such as arthritis or the monthly cramps. it seems to be a cure all: we’ll see if it can fix my waning memory.

(7.5.2011 BY: S) VITAMIN B12  I started to get the shakes yesterday + today it just continued. it was really weird, like a post-caffeine binge affect. i knew i ate enough both days (yesterday was like many american holidays, stuff your face for a cause) so i wasn’t really sure what the root of the problem was. B12 is for your nervous system + dividing red blood cells. It is not found in vegetable nutrients + therefor vegans must take supplements to keep this vitamin stored in the body. even if you think your superhuman + B12 is for only the feeble blooded… you’re not.>health links: vitamin b12
